In preparation for that moment, why not add a cottage-like feel to your living space to make spending those cold days and nights indoors anything but a chore.
This kind of atmosphere can be initiated in most house types, including period residences and modern properties. You just need to employ the right sort of touches to channel the unmistakable cottage aesthetic.
The feel: create a cosy ambience
We think of cottages as being warm and cosy spaces, so you need to begin by getting a nice temperature in your living space.
Your fire will obviously help with that, and if you need some additional warmth on those extra-cold nights, lay out some thick blankets and throws on any seating areas so that everyone has the option of getting under them during the coldest winter nights.
It shouldn’t get cold inside though if you have energy efficient windows and doors fitted because they will do a great job of holding the heat inside.
In doing so, they will also help to keep your heating costs down as you won’t need to regularly rely on your boiler.
The look: go for the cottagecore effect
Once you have the right amount of thermal comfort indoors, it’s your decor that needs to be reevaluated next.
There are many themes you could channel, but the most fitting would be cottagecore, a nostalgic movement, reminiscent of an earlier era, a time when things were less complicated and frenzied. UK home renovators (check this site for services) have religiously emulated cottagecore in their droves since the pandemic hit.
What it needs is lots of floral patterns, so get buying soft furnishings, such as curtains and valances, wallpaper and antique drawer knobs, that carry this patterning.
If you take our advice about having new energy efficient windows and doors installed, request a pastel-coloured finish for them, and see if there’s the option to include Georgian bars.
