Flush Windows Vs Non-Flush Casements: Which Is Right For You?

Flush Windows Vs Non-Flush Casements: Which Is Right For You?

Unless you work in the home improvement industry or you’re some sort of window expert, you may not understand the difference between flush windows and casement windows.

They are two individual window products but the key difference is the ‘flush’ feature.

A flush casement window has sashes that lie flat against the window frame, whereas on a standard non-flush casement window, the sashes overlap the frame.

Both styles are incredibly popular with homeowners living in Wales. They can be seen at our dedicated showroom in Newton, Powys.

How long have flush and non-flush casement windows been around for?

Flush casement windows have been present in Britain for more than 200 years. They were first developed in the 19th century when timber was the only material used to manufacture windows.

This makes sense when you consider how many houses built in the late Georgian, Edwardian and Victorian periods have timber-framed windows.

Non-flush casements have been around even longer and they were commonly seen in 18th century Britain. The best-selling windows were first built from iron by blacksmiths, until timber took hold in the 19th century and then they were made out of modern materials like UPVC and aluminium, like they still are today.

What has inspired the flush window revival?

Companies like ours are one of the main driving forces behind the flush window comeback. We believe that flush casement windows are the perfect solution for homeowners who want to create an alternative aesthetic.

Designed to imitate the original timber windows, the simplicity of the flush casement is evident in the elegant lines. Made from UPVC, our Envisage flush windows exceed the needs of modern homeowners, especially when it comes to energy efficiency and security.

How to choose the right windows for your Welsh home

Our Envisage flush windows are often selected as the ideal windows for historic properties situated in conservation areas. This is because they successfully replicate traditional timber windows of the 19th century.

Nevertheless, flush casement windows complement modern homes just as much as older residences, especially when a finish such as Black or Anthracite Grey is chosen.

A standard casement window, sometimes referred to as a ‘lipped’ window, can now claim to be the most popular window style in the UK and there’s good reason for this. They have the elegance to suit nearly every type of home.
