Will you have to give your conservatory a wide berth this summer because of temperature control issues? You wouldn’t if you had a new roof fitted to it.
We’re going to alert you to how to identify when you need one of our roof replacements, what options are available, and if a roof upgrade is subject to planning permission.
Recognising the Signs That Your Old Roof is Failing
- Leaking. Any leaks that occur suggest that a roof is deteriorating.
- Sagging. When some part of a roof sags, it’s due to structural weakness, poor installation or debris buildup.
- Discolouration. Weathering, moss and algae growth often prompt discolouration.
- Water ingress. Even the slightest cracks in panels or seals can lead to water ingress.
- Mould. Attend to mould straight away as it is a structural and health risk.
- Damp and condensation. Both point towards there being inadequate roof insulation or ventilation.
- Moisture. This is also symbolic of insufficient insulation.
Conservatory Roof Replacement Varieties
- Modern glass roofs. The modern glass roof features advanced glazing so that it realises elite thermal standards and offers reliable temperature regulation.
- Tiled and solid roofs. Top-quality insulation is assured with tiled or solid roofs and as they’re very lightweight, it makes their installation simple.
- Hybrid roofs. A hybrid design is a combination of solid, insulated panels and glass, delivering lots of light and relentless insulation.
- Polycarbonate roofs. Although they’re cheap and durable, polycarbonate roofs don’t come close to matching the thermal performance of modern tiled and glass roofs.
- Roof lanterns. An architecturally impressive facet of many extensions and modern conservatories, a roof lantern includes solar-control glazing.
Planning Permission and Building Regulations
Normally, conservatory roof replacements do not require planning permission as they are considered to be permitted developments.
Exceptions to this will be if a conservatory roof upgrade will entail a major change to an original structure or the house it’s installed at is either listed or in a conservation area.
Replacement roofs must also satisfy Building Regulations. You must submit a Building Regulation Application to incorporate a solid roof into an existing conservatory.
Mid Wales Windows would be thrilled to handle the management of a roof replacement project on your behalf to reinstate year-round conservatory use. Ask us for a quote so that we can discuss it and come and take a look at your living space before updating the roofing system.
