How To Get Your Windows And Doors Measured Up Before They’re Replaced

It’s encouraging that the government has decided to partly relax the restrictions we’re presently facing, but for the time being, it still isn’t possible for Mid Wales Windows to make home visits.

Georgian Style Windows

We do need to stress though to any customers wanting to get new windows and doors imminently organised is that you can put through an order for them now, rather than wait.

Our team is still here for you and will request one small favour as a help – can you measure up for us?

If you’re happy doing that, a consultant will provide a few simple instructions, which you can receive online if you try out our FREE Virtual Appointment Service

It would be unrealistic to expect exact measurements, and we don’t need them. Just a rough idea of window and door sizes will do.

Here’s a written guide to measuring up windows and doors, along with a few other important points:

Windows

  • Using your tape measure, you need to measure both the width and height of your windows.
  • Please do so in millimetres, centimetres or inches.
  • When measuring the width and height of the window, go brick-to-brick with the tape measure.
  • Take a photograph of your windows from outside your house if you want like-for-like replacements.
  • If you don’t want like-for-like replacements, show us an example of the window design you want.
  • Decide if you want UPVC double pane windows or aluminium window frame and also a coloured finish.

Doors

  • Using your tape measure, you need to measure both the width and height of your door.
  • Please do so in metric or imperial units.
  • When measuring the width of the door, go brick-to-brick with the tape measure, and brick-to-floor for the height.
  • Take a photograph of your door from outside your house if you want a like-for-like replacement.
  • Decide if you want a UPVC, aluminium, composite or solid core door frame and also a coloured finish.
  • Tell the consultant if your current door is hinged on the left or right on the outside and whether you want your replacement door to open inwards or outwards.

You could get these measurements done before you have your video-call with a consultant and supply them with the info.
